The charm of this island hasn't changed much over the years. It is still incredibly bike friendly and beautiful. Seafood, seashells and sunshine!
To Do
Go shelling. Sanibel has one of the best shelling beaches in the United States. You'll find a variety of shapes and sizes at low tide. The shelling is best during the winter/early spring but there isn't a time you won't find interesting shells.
Go to the beach. With plenty of beaches to choose from, spend a day in the water or on the sand. Bowman's Beach
Visit J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. This free attraction immerses you in nature and wildlife.
Go to the The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum. The variety of shells and fossils were a favorite for kids and adults!
Play at the Sanibel Community Playground. This playground is shaded with benches, perfect for little ones to play.
Eat at Island Cow for great food, great drinks, music and entertainment.
Go to the Farmer's Market. Mingle among the locals every Sunday 8a-1p from October to May at City Hall. Here you will find fresh seafood, handmade items, locally fruits and vegetables, tropical plants, and more.
Go for a bike ride. You can ride to to the grocery store, the beach, the Wildlife Refuge or just around for fun. Bring your own or rent one. This island is incredibly bike friendly.
Tips for Visiting
If you get caught on a rainy day, there is a cute library on the island.
Watch out for no see ums! These little critters will leave you itching before you even know you been bitten. Bring your bug spray.
